Part 2- Giving a new lease on life to those Vintage or maybe not so old but drab looking pieces in your home
A few more oldies have been splashed
with a little colour!
Here I have turquoise-d a Balinese
prison shutter mirror to bring an oceanic feel to the space. I applied an acrylic based paint and have given
the piece a distressed look so that the teak comes through predominantly to
pick up the wood in the coffee table and chest of drawers in the space.
The Balinese chest has been Annie Sloane-d too. I combined the “Napoleonic blue” and “black” chalk paints to dramatise the blue bringing together the dark wooden pieces.
Being a rental property I have had to work with the existing wall colour and fitted blinds in this space. The sofa
is a Coricraft sofa in a classic style covered in a neutral slipcover so any scatters go. I’ve added scatters in blues, reds
and whites to tie in with the white plasma stand and blue cabinets, and picked up the
reds and navy in the Union jack lamp shade.
The coffee table is also a Balinese
teak table. I’ve left the wrought iron and top of the table in its original state and
painted the sides and legs a beige coloured acrylic paint mixed up by my local paint
shop. This blends in with the sofas.
Taking the colour palette through
to the outside I had the outside patio cane furniture cushions covered in a French
stripe (red, blue, khaki and white stripe)fabric, utilising the wasted space between the bay windows and the sofa
as storage for the cushions.
Adding a large woven basket to the lounge space is always handy to hold those scatters when they are "scattered" on the floor when you lazing on the sofa.
